I agree, it’s the only way I can see the FIA granting the exception because it’s temporary for 2017. The following year it will have a 960 body.
By that point we may have a mid engined Corvette too...

That would kinda suck, as it looks fucking awesome now. They should run this bodystyle in ‘17 to let the 960's hype reach a fever pitch and to let the car develop and gestate before it goes racing
